Sell, Sell, Sell! The Player Market at DeathCon
It’s time to sell! Today, we’re covering the player market at DeathCon and what you can expect both as a vendor and as a buyer. After all, we want to make sure that things are profitable – on both sides.
The player market is an in-character market that will take place in the Downtown Drift, the main commercial area of Gunstock (make sure to check it out on the map here). In case of inclement weather, we’ll be putting it in Forestock Forge but if it’s a great day (fingers crossed) we’ll have it right outside in that area.
What to Expect at the Market
We have a bevvy of crafters in the local community, and would like to give them a place to showcase their wares during the event. With that in mind, the player market is the perfect place to do just that. We’ll have space for setting up wares to sell, and make sure to let others know that this is the place to browse the various items!
With that in mind, we do ask that everyone include props and actual items at this market rather than just cards. This is largely because we want to focus on the experience of the market.
What Vendors Should Know
As a vendor, you can choose to either sell items for actual cash, or can choose to keep it all in-character. If you choose to keep it in-character and ask for in-character currency, make sure that you have an item card associated with the physical item. This can just be a generic item card rather than anything special, as well.
If you choose to sell items for actual cash, we recommend that you also have a QR code so that individuals can use a cash pay app. We ask that you keep things in-character as much as possible; as an example, don’t comment on someone taking out their phone momentarily to pay for an item.
In addition, here are a few other things to keep in mind as a vendor:
Since the market is during the event from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, we are happy to help you transport your items if you need assistance. Just pop into Ops ahead of time!
There will be no combat modules at the market during market hours
As a vendor, you cannot be targeted by CvC (or engage in CvC) when transporting your items to and from the market (we feel like this goes without saying - but we’re popping this in, just in case!)
We will have some tables available for vendors, but if you have your own folding table, we encourage you to bring it. We are happy to provide a table covering for you, as well, so that it looks nice and post-apocalyptic.
Try to keep things in-character when possible! You can always reference “old world currency” for dollar amounts
Role-play modules may still occur at the market during this time, though you can easily ignore them if you so choose.
Make sure any items you have look genre. As an example, we ask that you do not sell unpainted Nerf blasters.
If you’d like to be a vendor at the market, please let us know by filling out the form here. This allows us to know generally how many people are interested and what they’re selling so that we can make sure there’s enough space for everyone. Not only that, but we’ll be creating a page on our website that people can reference to see what they can expect at the market ahead of time, so they can seek you out!
What Buyers Should Know
We encourage you to enjoy and browse the market during market hours! Since this is an in-character market, we ask that you remain in character. Vendors may reference “old world dollars,” which means that they’re asking for cash rather than in-game currency. With that in mind, make sure that you have cash (or your phone) on hand for payment. When using your phone to pay, we ask that you simply be discreet. If you see someone else paying, just ignore it as you would a green headband.
Make sure to treat the vendors well! There may be role-play modules that are present at the market, but we will not have combat at the market area during market hours (the Frontline Field is another matter).
Buy, Sell, and Have Fun
At the end of the day, our goal is for everyone to have fun. We encourage you to participate as much or as little as you’d like, and hope you’re as excited as we are for the event!
If you’d like to be one of the sellers at the market, make sure to fill out this form.
